2006 Tournament Recaps

Results of Amelia Bridge Landing Tournament - Nov. 11, 2006

Was it TOUGH or was it TOUGH !

Wow and was it Windy or was it Windy...6 teams paired up to journey to Amelia for the final tournament of the year.  The cold front that came through around midnite did not bring much cold air with it but it sure brought some of those howling 25 MPH winds.  Trust me when I say "do not fish Lake Verret when a front goes through unless you are prepared for a pounding, soaking ride.  In a race for first place between Mark Angelle and Larry Fadaol that started the day with the pair separated by a mere .53 lbs. and proved to be challenging at the least.  When the day was over, Fadaol's 2 keepers (1st place) edged out Angelle's 1 keeper vaulted Larry into first place by .71 lbs.  Congratulations to Larry Fadaol for capturing the Inaugural "Angler of the Year" Award.  To Angelle's credit, he was not a member until the club's second tournament.  Who knows what may have happened.  Next year's schedule is being set and will be ready for viewing in December.   Congratulations to all that participated this year and making the club a success.  This month's tourney was the club's Hi-Low pairing and the bottom 2 finally rose to the top when the day had ended.  Al Perry took second place individually as well as taking Big Fish honors for the day with a 2.68 lb largemouth.  Aaron Cluse captured 3rd place individually and took second place in the Big Fish category.   You guys better watch out next year.

Bayou Teche at Baldwin Results - Oct. 25, 2006

Were they short or were they short !

Yes Mr. Perry can catch fish !!!!  Feels like zero to hero..... The Teche at Baldwin proved to be very productive as 7 of 8 teams managed to bring in fish to the scales.  It was the largest number of fish brought into the scales for the year (37).  Fishing buddies, Mark Angelle and Bubba Patin roamed the areas off of the Intracoastal until finding a good working drain that produced 4 more keepers in a matter of minutes to ring up a 6 fish team limit.   Randy Prejean and Dale Fontenot captured 2nd place fishing dead end canals with spinnerbaits, Robert Giles and Jason Prather hooked up with their keepers of which most came on the hot bait of the year "Chatterbait".   Dale Fontenot boated a nice 3.05 pounder to take "Big Fish" for the day.  Partly cloudy to cloudy skies kept everyone from working up a sweat, and all managed to stay mostly dry except for a couple of drizzling showers.....Praise God for another great day on the water and keeping everyone safe....

September 22,23, 2006 - Toledo "I need some water" Bend Results

Was it LOW, or was it LOW !

8 Teams paired up and headed northwest to the smaller than normal Toledo Bend Reservoir.  Howling winds pounded the lake for 3 solid days, 20 to 25 MPH winds tossed the anglers around like popcorn.  Lots of good beach areas all around the lake.  No one reported any damage to their rigs other than having a blowout while trying to launch at Lanan Landing.  Also one boat got wedged between the fork of a tree and the anglers spent 45 minutes getting out of the wedgie (this same boat had the blowout)....many have vowed not to go back until the water rises to a safe level.  Of course Larry Fadaol had the highlight "catch of the day" with a 7.25 lb. bucketmouth....Larry broke Mark Angelle's one day old record of 3.46.  The fellowship supper at Bryce's was great, what more could you ask for, good food, good friends, good fun and good fellowship....we are blessed to have all of what God has created at our disposal.

August 26, 2006 - Bayou Benoit Landing Results

Was it WET, or was it WET !

Slicker suit time !!!!!!   Well once again 8 teams paired up to venture into the Atchafalaya Basin and face it's low water levels.  The river was going down to the lowest level seen in some time, 1.8' at Butte Larose.  Anglers were greeted with a nice downpour to start the morning as well as facing scattered showers throughout the day....Good news was that there was not any lightning accompanying the dew.  "Paw Paw" Prejean hooked up with Jason "Look at me now" Prather to take top honors for the day in the team event with a nice 11.84 lb stringer.   Jason also rang up the top numbers for the day in the individual side with a 7.14 lb catch.  The "Fluke Master", Mark Angelle busted a 3.37 pounder in the chops to take big fish honors, the fish also took over Big Fish for the Year.   Devin Lantier proved once again to be "the man" as he forgot his rainsuit at home and took a beating from the pouring rain, sand blasting his body....Rumor has it that he may have a Big Red "S" tatooed on his chest....

July 15, 2006 - Verdunville Landing Results

Was it hot, or was it hot !

9 Teams launched out of the Verdunville Landing as Anglers of Christ faced its 3rd stop of 2006.  The low water levels in the Basin should mean the fish should be congregated and easier to find.  Finding them was not a problem, however finding a 14" fish was a chore.  Large numbers were once again reported being caught, just most of them being on the short side, fat but short (resembles some of our members). There were also reports of members being attacked by Kamikaze mullets as well as the Evinrude commercial being re-inacted by a club member as his shirt went flying into the pond.  Hear more at the August meeting.

Thank you Lord for another day on the water.  I know our wives have a hard time understanding how we can stay out there all day long, not catch a fish and come home in a good mood.  You can't beat seeing the SON'S sun come up in the morning.

Lawrence Brunet proved to be "a force to be reckoned with" as he brought in a nice bag weighing in at 7.33 lbs. to capture 1st on the Individual scoring. Robert Giles had to blindfold partner Jim Walton so as not to reveal the "secret spot" as they ventured off into the Basin to take top honors in Team scoring with each bringing in a limit totaling 10.93 lbs. Elmer Savoie wrangled in a nice 3.19 largemouth to take Big Bass honors for the day.   August means we are headed North from Verdunville to the Bayou Benoit area for stop number four.  More than likely there will be some long boat runs made for that tournament or no gas burned at all,  just dropping that trolling motor down at the landing and catching those largemouth bass right there at the parking lot.

Top Teams:

 1. Robert Giles/Jim Walton  10.93

2. Lawrence Brunet/Mike McFaul, Jr.  10.12

3. Joe Phillips/Daniel Bryant  7.74

Was it fun or was it fun !!!!

7 Teams launched out of the Point as Anglers of Christ faced its 2nd stop of 2006.  The forecast looked gloomy as a 70% chance of rain faced the anglers.  Looks like the extra prayers saved the day as all stayed dry.  Thank you Lord.  Larry Fadaol and new member Mark Angelle paired up for a nice 12.78 lb bag of largemouth.  Congrats to Mike McFaul Jr. as he set a new mark for "Big Bass" for the year with a respectable 3.31 lb beauty.  July has AOC headed South to the Verdunville Landing for stop number three.
