INDIAN CREEK - MAY 10TH

" War paint time"

Thank God those hot 90 degree temperatures never materialized on the day.  Fishing did about the same with anglers fighting the "pickeral pecking" that happened throughout the day.  Lawrence Brunet hooked up with Bob "Good Day" Gaudet to bring in 10.18 lbs of fish to nail down 1st place.  The pair each managed a limit of fish.  Lawrence also boated "Big Fish" for the day with a nice 2.84 lb fish.  Mark Angelle continued to catch um as he and Jeromy Stansbury also brought each a limit totaling 8.84 lbs to take 2nd.  Randy Angelle and David Billings brought in 4 fish weighing in at 4.57 lbs for 3rd place.  Individually, Lawrence's 5.50 led the way, following close behind was Mark Angelle's 5.17 lbs.  Bob Gaudet had 4.68 lbs for 3rd.  Jim Walton was crowned "Prince Pickeral" with a 1.85 lb Pickeral.  (He brought home an extra $21 with that wiener)...

Individually-4th-Brooks Webre-4.24, 5th-Jeromy Stansbury-3.67, 6th-Randy Angelle-3.54, 7th-Randy Prejean-3.51, 8th-Chance Angelle-2.80, 9th Al Perry-2.14, 10th-Robert Giles-1.96, 11th-David Hebert-1.87, 12th-David Billings-1.03, 13th-Joe Phillips-1.00, Tie for 14th-Devin Lantier and Jim Walton-.93.

A total of 31 fish were brought to the scales, total weight was 42.97 lbs for and average weight of 1.39 lbs

 

SAM RAYBURN - APRIL 11TH AND 12TH

Wham, Bam, Look Out Sam !!!!

Looks like fishing was better at Rayburn in the fall than this spring, we still had some great catches.  The lake was up a couple of feet higher than it was in October, it must have moved those fish to another hiding place.  Mark Angelle and Brooks Webre "brought home the bacon" once again on the team side with a 2 day total of 11 fish weighing 27.34 lbs.  Sonny Bajat and David Zabolio paired up for 25.61 lbs, also with 11 bass to take 2nd place.  Looks like 11 is the number as Lawrence Brunet and Daniel Bryant had 21.27 lbs for the 2 day event and taking 3rd place.  Mark also led the pack individually with 15.56 lbs, following close behind was Robert Giles with 14.49 lbs and Zabolio's 13.42 lb stringer took 3rd.  Devin Lantier took Big Fish honors for the event with a nice 5.92 lb largemouth.  Sonny Bajat's 3.31 took 2nd.

A total of 89 Bass were caught with a total weight of 184.28 lbs, average weight-2.07 lbs per fish.

 

"PATTERSON not CLECO not CANE RIVER" - MARCH 15th

Hurricane in March ???

Well, the fishing merry go round finally found a place to fish for March by stopping off at the  Bayou Teche at Patterson.  WOW, how about that wind, Hurricane Alice blew into town with 25 to 30 MPH winds and hammered the 22 anglers vying for first place honors.  Hurricane Hunters, Daniel Bryant and Jason Prather teamed up to each catch a limit, giving them top honors in the team event with a 10.92 lb total.  Lawrence Brunet and Russell Dorion had 4 fish weighing 8.13 lbs to take 2nd place.  Jim Walton and David "Birthday Boy" Zabolio took 3rd with a 4 fish, 7.41 lb bag of fish.  Individually, Walton's 5.92 lbs nailed down 1st, Bryant's 5.84 lbs took 2nd and Prather's 5.08 lbs took 3rd.   Randy Prejean managed a 2.84 lb largemouth for Big Fish bragging rights on the day.  Lawrence Brunet's 2.31 lb fish took 2nd.

Teams: 4th-Savoie/Prejean  6.80, 5th-Giles/M. Angelle 3.78  6th-Joe Phillips/Bubba Patin 2.20,

Individual: 4th-Randy Prejean 4.95, 5th Brunet 4.59, 6th-Giles 3.78

A total of 23 fish were weighed in totaling 43.71 lbs for an average weight of 1.90 lbs

April's Sam Rayburn trip is all paired up....Good turnout for that event, hopefully less wind...

 

 

CHICOT LAKE -"THE GUESTS ARE GUESSING" TOURNAMENT-FEB.16th

As were many of the members !!!!!

Applications are now being accepted for the position of "Weatherman"   Boy did they get it all wrong for tournament day.  Cloudy skies, scattered and severe thunderstorms were predicted for the day, things looked pretty bleak as of Friday nite.  Once again, God intervened, providing us with a truly beautiful day on the water.  Can you say "RECORD SETTING DAY"....Jason Prather set 2 new marks by hooking a beautiful fish weighing 7.76 lbs, erasing Larry Fadaols 7.25 lb record.  Prather also nudged Raymond Mahfouz from the record book by totaling 11.44 lbs with his 3 fish total.   The old record of 10.44 lbs also came from the "Hit or Miss" lake.  Along with that, Robert Giles paired up with Clint Hudson to bring in another record with 6 fish weighing 17.59 lbs, shattering Larry Fadaol and Buddy Warren's record of 15.32 lbs, also caught at Chicot.  Also broken for the day was the record number of teams participating for a tournament.   21 teams showed up cracking the old record of 16 teams set at Chicot Lake.  Individually, Jim Walton brought in a nice stringer of 9.88 lbs. for 2nd place,  Giles pounded 3 into submission for 3rd place with his 9.14 lb sack of bass.  Mark Angelle managed a couple of fish for 5.26 lbs for 4th while Brooks "The Bullet" Webre had 4.94 lbs to lay claim to 5th, Chance Angelle boated one nice one to take 6th with a 4.81 lb largemouth.  Those teams following Giles and Hudson were, Prather and Daniel Bryant's 4 fish total of 13.32 lbs.  3rd place belonged to Jim Walton and Randall Brown's 4 fish weight of 12.63 lbs.  Brooks and Scott Webre took 4th with 8.75 lbs, 5th place had the duo of father and son team, Mark Sr. and Mark Jr., the Angelle's with 5.26 lbs.  The 6th spot was hooked by David Hebert and B.J. Dorrell's 5.13 lb bag.

GUESTS: Hudson had Big Stringer for the day for the guests with a limit coming in at 8.45 lbs.  Dorrell’s 5.13 took 2nd place and Scott Webre’s 3.81 took 3rd place.  Chris Billings claimed top honors for Big Fish on the day with a nice 3.75 lb largemouth, Hudson had a 3.19 for 2nd place.

MEMBERS: Chance Angelle had 1 that weighed 4.81 lbs for 2nd place Big Fish.  7 fish over the 3 pounds led by Waltons' 3.94 lb fish for 3rd.  And of course 1 over 7 pounds.   A total of 30 fish weighing 86.07 lbs for a 2.87 lbs average was caught by members and their guests.  A total of 19 fish weighing 57.99 lbs was brought in by 11 members for an average weight of 3.05 lbs.  One other small note:  12 members need flea powder for scratching.  And that other record, the fifth one,  one of which we don't like to talk about....22 total scratches counting guests and members.......Break out those crying towels guys.....

"Kick Off Time"

Giving thanks to God for a beautiful and bountiful day on the water, well bountiful for some, empty handed for others.  Everyone enjoying the fellowship and competition brought together by two common denominators, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and the species that God has blessed us with, the largemouth bass.  Bragging rights were claimed by a "combo group" of fishermen.  It was a Record Setting day as 4 teams shattered last years winning weight of 6.89 lbs  George Zimmer's Big Fish record of 4.09 lbs also fell as 2 participants broke that mark. 

The Masters Casters of Gonzales fielded 2 teams consisting of David Ellis and George Zimmer along with Charles Deranger and Rip Parker as well teaming up with Anglers of Christ members David Billings and Chance Angelle to bring in a beautiful 18.93 lb stringer for the day.  Ellis and Zimmer had 3/7.48 lbs, Deranger and Parker tallied 2/3.48 lbs and Billings and Angelle's 3/7.97 lb stringer anchored the clubs winning total.  Billings also captured the BIG FISH for the day with a nice 4.37 lb largemouth.  2nd place belonged to the Christian Fellowship of Bass Anglers of Lafayette with another nice stringer totaling 17.12 lbs  It marked the 2nd year in a row that CFBA came in 2nd.  David Beasley and Brian Crochet brought in the BIG STRINGER for the day with a nice 3 fish limit tipping the scales at 8.06 lbs.  Honorary Weigh Master, Travis Stelly and Tony Kemp brought in 3 as well for a total weight of 6.28 lbs.  Donald Bryant and Brian Bridges had one keeper for 2.78 lbs.  Defending Champs, Anglers of Christ of Lafayette, finished 3rd on the day with a 10.11 lb total weight.  David Zabolio and Jim Walton's 7.45 lbs stringer led the way for AOC.  Mark and Randy Angelle brought in 2/2.66 lbs  Remaining members, Randy Prejean and Lawrence did not want any fish smell on their hands.  Fishin for Jesus of Zachary nailed down the 4th spot with a 9.42 lb catch.  Terry Munn and Richard Fitzpatrick had 2 keepers weighing 5.50 lbs and had 2nd place Big Fish for the day with a 4.20 lb fish  Dennis Kirby and Rocky Ricks also had 2 for 3.92 lbs.  Lane Thomas and Tommy Roberts also did not want to get any fish slime on their hands.   Miss-Lou Christian Bass Club had one lone member, Dave Hickman, he paired up with CFBA's David Hamner.  Sonny Bajat along with Jeromy Stansbury as well as Bob Gaudet and Al Perry comprised the 5th place team for the day.  Gaudet and Perry brought in the club's only keeper, that big boy came in at 1.53 lbs, just edging out the Anglers for Christ Bass Club from the Pine Prairie/Ville Platte area, that club managed one keeper as well, scaling in at 1.47 lbs which was caught by the duo of Mike Reed and David Newman....Brent Malagarie and Rodney Jenkins along with Robin Young and Jeff Piker also required  no soap.

The winners took home $190 which is to donated back into church ministry or a charity of their choice.  Next years event will start an hour later (8 AM instead of 7) by popular demand and will finish up at 4 PM.  Thanks to all participants as well as all those that brought their club together.  Special thanks to Travis Stelly for being Weigh Master for the day, to David Ellis for his closing prayer and to Dave Hickman with Pro Fish Services for donating the Big Fish prize.  We are already looking forward to next years tournament once again to be held on False River, unless someone comes up with another fishing spot that would be centrally located for all clubs.
